Barbini Sommerso Biomorphic
Amber Murano Glass Bowl,
Italy c.1950
Designed by Alfredo Barbini for Murano, this venetian glass biomorphic bowl is a classic example of one of his signature designs.
Crafted on the Italian island of Murano circa 1960, this piece is an example of the ‘Sommerso’ technique, which in Italian literally means “submerged”. This technique is used to create several layers of glass (usually with different contrasting colours) inside a single object, giving the illusion of “immersed” colours that lay on top of each other without mixing.
Sometimes referred to as ‘Honey’, this colour of this piece flows from golden amber to clear at the rim.
This is excellent vintage condition.
As is often the case with glass of this kind, its density offers a durability that stands the test of time.
A few superficial surface scratches upon examination but no chips or cracks.
Dimensions: 15cm diameter, 7.5cm tall
